An introductory course covering all the basic aspects of this social dance, ethics and culture influences.
Basic steps in salsa, leading/ following techniques, timing and rhythm, basic Afro-Cuban dance, and partner work.
Demonstrate greater knowledge of salsa dance and its strong influences.
Perform short sequences with a dance partner with salsa music.
Identify and understand the different dance styles.
The course is open to complete beginners and is aimed at those who would like to have a basic foundation of salsa and Afro-cuban dance.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
By a fully UKA qualified salsa teacher. Attendance and punctuality are essential to achieving course goals. There is no additional work outside of the class.
Please do not wear trainers. You will need soft-soled dance shoes or Latin dance shoes.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
