What is the course about?

How do actors get directors to give them what they need? How do directors get actors to give them what they want without killing their creativity? An intensive workshop on getting the best out of the rehearsal process.

What topics will we cover?

Strategies and tools for enabling collaborative work. Getting the rehearsal room to “buzz.” The actor's toolkit. Key tools used by directors such as Brook, Brecht, Barba and Lepage.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand the actor/ director relationship.
Work productively in rehearsals, employing a range of techniques.
Enjoy a developed sense of personal creativity.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for actors and directors at all levels of experience.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a pactical course involving group, pair and solo work. There will also be some discussion around key issues and analysis of ground breaking work.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
