Course outline

What is the course about?

To introduce some of the skills involved in circus and circus-type performance.

What topics will we cover?

Juggling, object balancing, unicycling, tight rope, diabolo, escapology, and presenting your skills.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Juggle three basic objects. Spin a Diabolo. Balance an object on your nose.
Understand the techniques involved in, and have practical experience of, tight rope walking, unicycling, escaping from a strait jacket and lying on a bed of nails.
Understand some techniques for presenting these skills to an audience.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners, no starting skills necessary.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Take part in class discussions.
• Read a script and/or related text.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

A friendly, practical course where you will learn by doing, with guidance and help from the course tutor. The emphasis is on enjoyment. There will also be some group work, pair work, and working individually with one to one help from the tutor.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Comfortable clothing, flat soled shoes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
