Course outline

What is the course about?

Firstly it is about how to enjoy yourself on stage and secondly, how to share this with others and with the audience. We will share our successes and our flops and in so doing will discover the essential elements necessary for a clown performance. Students will develop and present their own material.

What topics will we cover?

Play, work on rhythm, focus, timing, physical and special awareness, status and comic relationships.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- be relaxed, simple and vulnerable on stage.
- take playful risks on stage.
- establish and develop a playful relationship with the audience.
- understand the essential elements of a clown performance.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Take part in class discussions.
• Read a script and/or related text.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Group, pair and individual work. It is not necessary to do any work outside of class. Body awareness and physical expression are central to the course. These are both released via playful physical games and exercises.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. There will be opportunities for student/tutor discussion and feedback to assess student understanding and development.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
