How to manage, administer and produce theatre, dance, music and art events.
Money: funding, sponsorship, earned income, ticket sales, taxation, financial management and procedures, box offices and ticketing.
Project management
Marketing: strategy, artwork, working with print and press releases, websites, mobile content.
Law: contracts, licensing, copyright, employment and obligations, company formation, legal disputes.
Touring in the UK and overseas.
Production management.
The job market, cvs and application forms.
- have a basic but robust understanding of how an arts project is managed and administered.
- know the formal and legal parameters within which to produce an arts event in the UK.
- have some knowledge of the different kinds of funding available.
- understand project management, production management and tour management.
- understand the process of marketing an arts event, including working with print and press releases.
- produce cvs, fill in application forms and tackle the job market.
This is an introductory course intended to be accessible to beginners. It may help you if you have some basic knowledge, perhaps from having been involved with community, student or amateur arts events.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
By instruction, practical projects and one or two outside visits.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
