Would you like to do a successful audition? Come and learn the basic do's and don't's of auditioning with Simone Reynolds, an internationally renowned casting director, and Vivienne Rochester, Head of Drama Dance and Speech at City Lit. There will be detailed analysis of both the theatre and film audition. You will prepare scenes from plays and tv drama, television scenes will be filmed and played back to enable you to watch and improve your performance, and there will be individual advice given to help you understand how the audition process works.

What is the course about?

Would you like to do a successful audition? Come and learn the basic do's and don't's of auditioning with Simone Reynolds, an internationally renowned casting director, and Vivienne Rochester, Head of Drama Dance and Speech at City Lit. There will be detailed analysis of both the theatre and film audition. You will prepare scenes from plays and TV drama. Television scenes will be filmed and played back to enable you to watch and improve your performance, and there will be individual advice given to help you understand how the audition process works.

What topics will we cover?

TV, film theatre interview and audition techniques.
How to be confident, relaxed and authentic during the process.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Feel confident, relaxed and authentic and able to assess your strengths and weaknesses during the process.
Feel confident that you could attend a theatre, TV or film audition and acquit yourself well.
Successfully break down a script/play and work in detail on a chosen scene.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

An advanced course suitable for you if you have some experience of TV, film, theatre acting and casting.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a group and individually with the opportunity for ongoing assessment. You will be asked to bring in your own monologues as well as a copy of Patrick Marber's "Closer".

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring in your own monologues as well as a copy of Patrick Marber's "Closer". Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. A note book and pen will be useful.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
