An opportunity to explore acting Shakespeare in a rehearsal environment.
The acting requirements (vocal, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual) for acting Shakespeare.
Accessible ways of expressing and interpreting Shakespearean text.
The relationship between contemporary and historical interpretation of Shakespeare’s plays.
- Identify and use acting cues given to you in Shakespeare’s text.
- Use new vocal techniques effectively.
- Use your understanding to clearly express and interpret Shakespeare’s text.
- Explore Shakespeare sonnets, and rehearse a selected speech and scene from a Shakespeare play.
This mixed ability course is open to people with some, a little or more extensive experience of working with classical text. An excitement and interest to explore the world of Shakespeare is the key requirement, along with a good level of reading skills.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
Mostly group and pair work. Participation, observation and discussion of acting techniques and topics arising from material. The course usually involves a visit to a professional production.
A suggested reading list (optional) will be given. You will need to buy, borrow or pay a nominal amount for a photocopy of the selected play.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. There is also an opportunity for you to monitor and self assess your progress throughout the course in a weekly journal.
