Course outline

What is the course about?

Storytelling is one of the foundations of theatre, in all cultures. We will explore ways of telling stories with language, body and rhythm, solo and in groups.

What topics will we cover?

Learning tools for storytelling; exploring performance skills; narrative structure and different types of stories. We will combine theory and practice while engaging and having fun. There will be a sharing of work during the course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Feel confident to engage an audience and communicate a narrative to them.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Open to all, including those who have completed an earlier course.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback
• Take part in class discussions
• Read and listen to stories
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

In group exercises and individually with feedback from the tutor.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
