What is the course about?

You will learn the techniques and tasks required for TV Presenting audition success in a variety of genres. You will be put in TV Presenting audition situations and learn how to cope. You will prepare some audition scripts which will be sent to you before the course and deliver them to camera during the course as if in a realistic audition situation.

What topics will we cover?

Talking to camera, ad libbing to time, demonstrations, reading autocue, thinking on your feet, being interviewed by producers.

Appreciate what qualities make a successful TV Presenter
Cope well with a TV Presenting audition

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for those who have TV presenter training and/or experience. It is designed for those who are about to audition for TV Presenting jobs, or those who want to improve their audition technique. It is not suitable for those who have no TV Presenting experience as the course is fast-paced and assumes basic TV presenting skills.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently and clearly.
• To read a script accurately.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is highly practical: your work will be recorded to camera and played back with analysis from the tutor, self-evaluation and peer feedback. You will be required to prepare some audition pieces to camera prior to the course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Recommended reading: ‘So You Want to be a TV Presenter?’ by Kathryn Wolfe, published by Nick Hern Books,
ISBN 978 1 84842 062 5. Please bring a notepad and pen.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
