Learning how to create and recall unique character voices for use in all areas of performance including animation, stage, television and film.
Archetypes as they relate to character
The 6 main elements of a character voice
How physicality informs a character’s voice
How to build a new character voice from scratch
Where to get ideas for new characters
Techniques on how to retain and recall your newborn characters
Tips on working in animation and voiceover.
Recognise and work with character archetypes
Name and work vocally with the main elements of a character voice
Create and catalogue at least 3 unique character voices
Have a good understanding of your vocal range, abilities and potential.
Character voice work is considered an advanced skill. To enrol, you should have completed at least one of the following courses or the equivalent: ‘Working in Voiceover’, ‘Acting for Radio’, ‘Radio Presenting’, OR have other relevant experience/training in acting or voice work.
You should also be able to:
Speak English fluently and clearly
Read a script
Give and receive constructive feedback
Be willing to play vocally
Take notes

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
