Explore the excitement and challenges of TV presenting, in a supportive, hands-on studio environment. This mainly practical course will put you in the driving seat as a TV presenter. Spread over three terms, the course covers all aspects of TV presenting, starting with basic skills and progressing to more challenging presenting techniques. You will share in some elements of the sister course 'Camera, TV & film-making skills', providing a practical grasp of the basic technologies underlying TV production.
The emphasis will be on practical exercises and 'as live' performance, with regular exposure to studio conditions. You will be expected to prepare exercises to perform each week in advance, with frequent opportunities for positive critique and feedback.
All aspects of TV presenting, including: sight reading scripts and news bulletins; vocal delivery and basic camera technique; reading from autocue; scriptwriting; interview techniques; information about working with children and animals; use of props and visual demonstrations; and image and appearance. Some outside filming experience may be provided, including “vox pop” street interviews.
Present a script to camera with authority and style.
Read a news bulletin at sight.
Handle props in vision.
Carry out an onscreen interview professionally and convincingly.
Talk ad lib “to time”.
Present an attractive and confident persona on screen.
Beginners through to intermediate/advanced.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently and clearly.
• To read a script accurately.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
In groups, individually and in pairs. Basic skills training will include voice/movement and sight reading exercises, involving group critique and feedback. There will be an emphasis on group bonding and ensemble work, with the individual benefiting from the support of the whole group.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Individual and group feedback and critique, frequent playback opportunities to watch yourself on camera. Tutor feedback.
