Course outline

What is the course about?

It is a dance workout involving a gentle, rhythmic warm-up followed by stretching, toning and strengthening exercises. Each class will culminate in an exuberant dance sequence, developed from week to week or changed periodically to add variety, set to great tunes old and new.

What topics will we cover?

Exercise for alignment, balance, flexibility, strength and stamina and dance action, promoting greater expression and musicality.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Have improved your agility
Use greater dynamic variety
Have better poise
Increase your staying-power
Have a sense of early-morning pleasure.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

It’s an elementary/general level class suitable for people who enjoy their dance and can commit to 45 minutes of sequenced, continuous action.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You learn practically, through physical demonstration, constructive tuition and guided practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Clothing suitable for moving with complete freedom will be needed as well as dance footwear if desired, e.g. jazz shoes and ballet pumps.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be able to check your progress through self assessment of physical sensation, e.g. having an improved feeling of fitness and a sense of well-being. Also, progress will be regularly assessed and monitored by your tutor taking into account class work and homework (where appropriate).

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?

You may be interested in: education and careers advice; financial and childcare support; disability support; support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students; dyslexia support; English and maths support; counselling, and library services (supported learning centre).
