To explore, as an actor, language and theatre text, and to increase your knowledge of plays.
Exploring differing texts, how to break down text, discover subtext, create characters, understand story, improvise around text and physical/vocal warm ups.
- have the confidence and some skill to explore and perform text from the work of Shakespeare.
- have the confidence and skills to explore and perform a variety of other text.
- perform a personal physical and vocal warm-up.
This is a follow-on from Introduction to Acting, or from similar introductory or basic acting skills course.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in discussion and drama practice.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
Practical work in groups, pairs and solo.
You are encouraged to obtain copies of the relevant texts when necessary.
Some exercises will be drawn from 'The Actor and the Text' by Cicely Berry and you are encouraged to purchase this book.
Pen, paper and any handouts will be given to you during the course.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Natural observation of performance and continual feedback and evaluation throughout the session.
