A 'taster' course for anyone interested in acting.
Introduction of technical skills - breathing, movement, voice. Introduction to the physical aspects of acting. Improvisation. Group work, individual work and work in pairs. Beginning to explore the actors imagination. Observation skills. Use of games to free the imagination. Introduction of text - how to play imaginatively with text. Introduction to character devising.
Most students open up considerably and learn to work closely and generously with their fellow students.
Most importantly they have fun.
They will all know by the end of the course whether they want to go on and explore acting skills in depth.
They will have begun to learn that acting combines a number of skills and innate abilities which everyone can share and improve on.
They will have begun to identify their own unique qualities and how to exploit them and expand them.
Beginners.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Take part in class discussions.
• Read a script and/or related text.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
See above.
Nothing is required except attendance but I encourage a group visit to see a theatre performance of the groups choice.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Weekly tasks appraised verbally by tutor. Self assessment encouraged from outset. Constructive, supportive assessment by students of students also encouraged. Observation of self and others is taught as an essential skill in this area. Students become adept quickly at recognising progress in themselves and others.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
