The Monday afternoon class was superb.

As a teacher myself I notice when a teacher is good or not. His commitment to teaching, getting us to bond as a group and inspiring us to keep learning was above and beyond the norm. He's one of a kind - catch him while you can!

The methods of teaching were fun and very interesting. I liked that there were a range of methods including improvisation and text.
I've experiences a range of emotions from crying with laughter to being so nervous I've had a stomach ache!

I'll definitely be carrying on with acting and would highly recommend this course.

An enjoyable introduction to the basic foundation of acting. A nice build up of group exercises and some individual work. A friendly and safe environment to start learning in.

I gave up 12 weeks of Friday nights to do this course and have no regrets at all. In fact I am really missing it.

We started with games and easy improvs to get the feel of acting and moved onto texts and scenes in the latter part of the course. Jayne, our tutor, was always enthusiastic and is a very good and inspirational teacher/director and I felt challenged - in a good way - by the work she gave us to do. It wasn't until a few weeks before the end of the course when I realised just how much I was learning and loving it.

I now have a serious need to learn as much as I can and I am looking forward to doing further acting classes.

I highly recommend this course to anyone who either wants to have some fun or wants to find out more about acting and if it is for them.

A note: we are over half way through the course and while I generally wouldn't review a course until the end. I am unsure whether I will complete it. Also, the experience of many of my classmates seems to be quite at odds to mine - many people really enjoy the course.

Overall, I felt that time could be better managed on the course.

Certain concepts in acting were introduced using games and exercises - which is good practice - but there was an over-reliance on these activities. It felt like the pay off for a 10-30 minute activity was not enough most of the time. With a bit of restructuring, the activities could have been more meaningful (e.g. they could be used as a springboard to small-group discussions)

Not every student needs to do every task in order to learn - different students could be used for different exercises. There were too many times where the insistence that everyone do everything resulted in my mind wandering. Even though there were good ideas behind the exercise, it sometimes felt a little like padding.

The course worked better when texts were introduced, but again there was an insistence that every student respond or do every task. This had the effect of dragging things out unnecessarily.

The tutor was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and approachable - with a few tweaks to the structure of the activities, this could be a really excellent course.

I often arrived tired on a Tuesday but was always quickly revigorated by games, improv exercises and performance snippets. I totally recommend this class to anyone, especially if you feel you just need to let loose one in a while!

The tutor was enthusiastic and passionate about acting and teaching, but I expected the course be more in depth. There were too many silly games, where I couldn't really figure their relation to acting. I expected something more concrete out of this course: engaging to the inner landscape, acting silly and stupid to get rid of feeling of embrassament, improvising a scene, body language and character relation etc.

I feel that I didn't get it, or if I subconsciously did, it wasn't to the fullest or as much as it could be.

Majority of students didn't want to be actors. They just did it for fun or to gain confidence, so I felt kind of out of place, because I really want to be an actor.

City Lit as an adult's education centre is great! You get so much for the fee you're paying.

I would definately recommend City Lit to a friend, but if they want to take acting seriously, I wouldn't recommend taking Introduction to Acting course.

But if having fun, meeting people and gain confidence is what you want, then go for it!

This course was so much fun! It was a safe and encouraging environment, where we were encouraged to feel comfortable to try new things out, be silly, and learn how to improvise, block and act short dialogue. There was a lovely range of people on the course, all with different backgrounds and reasons for taking the course and we had a great time.

What a course! The amount of learning is just enough to explore a range of scripted and improvised dialogue for us beginners. The wonderful way in which our teacher encouraged us to push out further into acting on emotions and the all-round support of the class group made it a safe and confortable enviromnent to practise the basics of acting.

Give it a try if you're thinking of exploring acting. It might get you hooked!

This course was a great mix of fun and being introduced to acting. I was a complete novice and I felt it was a safe and supportive envionment to learn something about acting and how actors work. The best part was just trying things out for yourself. The teaching was excellent - based on exercises and feedback - and the classes were at a good pace. I'd recommend this course to anyone.
