Nothing was covered that you couldn't teach yourself, but for someone with no experience this is a better way to start. It covers all the basics, and gives you what you need so that you can go on from here to whatever you want to do.

I had several reasons I wanted to give stand up comedy a try - but for a long time didn't have the nerve and didn't know where to start. I had no idea how a class in stand up comedy would work. From day one, the teacher encouraged us to be ourselves, learn our thoughts, to write, to contribute to the group and to bond. Without us even realising it, a safe and supportive atmosphere was created in which I, for sure, learned how to focus, to write, to edit and have confidance in my work, my performance and myself as a person to the extent that I'm rising to new challenges and have made some of the best friends I might never even have met.
Life, as a stand up, as an office worker, as a cleaner, presents us with scary situations sometimes - do this stand up course - nothing will seem like a big fear ever again - and you'll have a bloody good laugh whilst you're at it.

The tutor is a generous and encouraging teacher and a master of the field. This is the best non-career oriented course I've ever taken. It was so good in fact, that the thought of doing standup as a career has now crossed my mind (though it only lasted a moment:). This class will help you with public speaking, improvisation, mining your past for funny stories, creating a stage persona, and yes, to be funnier. This class will likely help many people in their normal careers as well. But, all of this only happens if the student is willing to put in some work. The tutor does as much a teacher can (he even wheels you around in a stroller at one point), but it's all with the goal of you becoming a comedian, which eventually must come from yourself. Several of his students have become professionals, and in our class, 15 of 18 finished the class 12 weeks later (that's a massively high figure for a non-obligatory night class). Another benefit of the course is that it attracts down-to-earth cool people, and at the end of it, many of us have bonded and become friends. All this may sound too good to be true, but it really is a great experience.

I did this course a few years ago and since then I have done all sorts of comedy writing courses and courses about life skills/philosophy/enmegrams and many more. This stand up comedy course was the best of all. I loved it in all sorts of ways, it gave me more confidence to stand up and presentation my ideas, it helped me with my writing skills and best of all it was great fun.

So basically I did the course twice in a row a few years ago. At first I didn't quite know what the standup comedy was. I know it's weird but I'm not lying. But thought I'm just gonna try it for fun. And at first was very afraid but only because of the teacher's encouragement I kept doing till eventually started liking it more and more. Very happy I decided to try this course. Like somebody else mentioned was my highlight of the week.

By the time the first day of this course came around, the enthusiasm I'd had when signing up for the course had long left me, and I was resigned to attending a couple of classes just to justify spending the course fee. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding, fun and challenging experiences OF MY LIFE. I highly recommend both the course and tutor to everyone, especially anyone who's sitting at home trying to muster up the courage to press the'Register' button. We didn't have to succeed; we were just encouraged to be ourselves on this course, and push the boundaries again and again in a safe environment...It wasn't about getting it right; it was about participating, and having fun, no matter what.

This course is a great example of "You get back what you put in" The tutor facilitates you to be able to explore your comic potential and he does that with expertise and a relaxed and encouraging manner. The fact is that if you have something funny to say this course will help you find a way to say it and help you develop both confidence and style. Don't expect it to turn you into Dylan Moran or Jim Carr overnite but you will certainly kick start yourself if that's what you want. I certainly have no regrets about taking this course and recommend it highly.

I arrived feeling very nervous about what I had let myself in for, but after a couple of weeks we were all performing our own material to the rest of the class and developing our own style of performance. The class became the highlight of my week, and I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching and opportunity to try things out in a non-threatening environment. I completely agree with Suzanne Alford's review when she says that you will get the most out of the course if you are prepared to put the work in outside of class. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I joined for the craic and it didn't disappoint - supportive group, good gender mixture, non threatening and most importantly I met my future husband here (sadly he doesn't know it yet).

The Stand-up comedy workshop is a very practical one from the word go. It involves a mix of writing out your ideas for homework and then putting them into practice during class and the Teacher and class giving constructive feedback. There was also elements of improvisation. In essence the more effort you put in and the more you practice the greater the rewards of the course. I definitely noticed a very big improvement between class colleagues performances from the start to the end of the course.

I was expecting this to be super-fun, instead I got to sit through 3 hours of bad jokes, with no real intervention from the teacher.
