The course will cover two popular dances: the bull fighting Spanish paso doble and the GI war-time dance, the jive. Both are from the American Latin field.
Paso doble:- attack, elevations, displacement, separations, fallaway separation sur place, fallaway whisk, grand circlé,
Jive:- basic in fallaway, change of place right to left, stop and go, hands behind the back, change of place left to right, link, and chassé walks.
Steps will be incorporated into a simple routine that you will be able to dance in the sessions and outside the classroom environment.
- dance the two dances with correct footwork and to correct tempo of music.
- lead and follow different learners on the course in the two dances.
The course is aimed at beginners and also people who need to brush up on their existing dancing skills.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within the two dances.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
The tutor will demonstrate the steps and will give verbal instructions. You will practise dancing the steps with a partner and then to music.
There will be no work outside the class but you will be given handouts about the steps taught, so that you can practise the steps at home.
No other costs involved but you should wear loose fitting clothes, no trainers, flip-flops or slingback shoes, and bring a drink.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be asked to complete an ongoing personal progression form on each session, so that any concerns can be addressed quickly.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
