What is the course about?

An intensive practical course in screen acting performance, and techniques for acting in front of the camera. It is aimed at students with experience of screen acting who wish to develop confidence in front of the camera.

You will get an in-depth look at techniques ranging from improvisation to character development, based on a script for TV/film. Learn how to get the best performance and build your confidence on screen. Practise moving for the camera and learn about the differences between theatre and television performances. Scenes will be worked, recorded and analysed, and you will be required to learn scripts.

Character development and performance - what an actor needs to know.

You will perform, film and watch back monologues and duologues from a television/film script. There will be one research assignment in modules 1 & 2 to further your understanding of film history and acting techniques for the camera.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate confidence and relaxation in front of the camera; Show a good knowledge of screen acting in performance;
Hit marks;
Maintain focus and continuity for filmed monologues and duologues.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

• Take notes.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
