This workshop will help you write clear, concise business letters, reports and emails as well as CVs and covering letters. The course will focus on developing your understanding of the language and style required for business writing.
You will analyse examples of business correspondence in order to identify principles of business communication.
You will examine the language and vocabulary used in business letters, emails, reports and proposals.
You will improve upon examples of business writing and produce your own correspondence.
- understand the difference between business and other styles of writing
- produce CVs, letters, reports and proposals in an appropriate style and format
- identify principles of style and structure used in business correspondence.
Though no previous business experience is necessary, learners will benefit more from the course if they can bring examples and ideas from their own business background. The course is for upper-intermediate to advanced learners of English.
You will have opportunities to review your own writing through group feedback. Classes will consist of presentations from your tutor, pair and group work, and class discussion.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions. To be assessed for this course please come along to a Humanities drop-in-advice session. These take place as follows:
Term time

Non term time
Mondays 17.30-18.30
Thursdays 12.30-13.30.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. The tutor will mark all work submitted with comments and suggestions for improvement. You will learn to assess your own writing and have an opportunity to discuss it with others in the class.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
