Your tutor will decide from a range of topics and ask you what topics you want to cover. Topics may include: alphabet, upper and lower case letters, everyday words and simple sentences.
-read and write the letters of the alphabet
-read, spell and write simple everyday words and sentences.
This is a course for fluent speakers of English who want to learn to read and write. To do this course you need to be able to copy simple words. It would be helpful if you know some letters and numbers and can copy some simple words.
Teaching will be in a supportive group setting, which involves pair and small group work. The interactive whiteboard, computers and handouts will help your learning. You will be given homework on a regular basis.
You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Your tutor will give you verbal feedback as a group during the session, and written feedback on the paper exercises you do. You will decide individual learning goals with your tutor and see your progress over the term by keeping a folder of work.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. You will be able to talk to your tutor in one to one meetings about your learning (tutorials) or ask to speak to the tutor. Your tutor will ask for your feedback as a group at different times during the session and in course reviews. You will be able to formally record your views on the course at the end.
