Gain a basic understanding of counselling theory, skills and practice. Through a mixture of practical and theoretical work you will improve your communication skills and practice several counselling techniques useful in your complementary therapy career. Techniques covered will include body matching and mirroring body language, reflecting back, active listening and paraphrasing.

The course is taught at an interest level and is for qualified or training complementary therapists. You will not be expected to have any previous knowledge of counselling skills. You are required to read short sentences, follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts and the internet.
Practical exercises in the form of group and pair activities, short lectures, class discussion and reading some short texts. There will be no work outside the class.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
