Course outline

What is the course about?

This course will teach you the basic moves of bhangra and bollywood moves at mixed level. You will learn the moves, and be able to perform them individually, in pairs and in groups. You will begin to appreciate style of movement, rhythm and partnership skills at a basic level. Open to beginners.

What topics will we cover?

You will learn about rhythm and the feeling of the music, tempo changes and the basic movements of the different styles. You will work individually, in pairs (leading and following) and as a whole group.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Perform the basic moves of Bhangra and bollywood
- Gain partnership skills of leading and following at beginner level
- Differentiate between musical rhythms of each style
- Perform the steps individually, in pairs and with the whole group
- Improve social skills and interaction
- Improve fitness levels, coordination
- Gain an appreciation of Asian music.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Mixed levels. All welcome.

You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise in please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in an exercise or movement class.

- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Is there anything else we should know about your health?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back or knee problems?

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- Practical demonstration
- Pair work and whole group activities.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing and dance trainers or shoes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be observed by the tutor, and given constructive feedback when and where and when appropriate. You will also be able to give and receive feedback from your peer group.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
