It is usually characterised by playful, ritualised games which combine elements of dancing, combat and music while stressing interaction between two players and the musicians and observers. Improve and develop your physical strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular stamina while being introduced to one of Brazil's most popular activities. Suitable for any level of experience and ability, you will be taught at a slow pace with movements tailored to your own level.
- brief introduction to Capoeira history
- Capoeira moves: The Ginga, Meia-Lua, Negative, Roll, Rabo de Arraria and Au
- introduction to the music using percussion instruments: Berimbau, Pandeiro, Agogo, Drum, Reco-Reco
- movements and specific exercises aimed to improve general fitness: coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, stamina and endurance
- progression to movements combined in sequences.
- Demonstrate improved overall fitness: physical strength, flexibility, aerobic stamina, coordination, balance and agility
- Perform the basic capoeira moves in sequences
- Identify different Capoeira movements - ginga, esquivas, rolls, kicks
- Identify 3 elements of Capoeira culture: the Dance, the Music and the Game of Capoeira
- Demonstrate improved cardiovascular endurance fitness.
The class is suitable for complete beginners but Capoeira students with some experience are encouraged to work at their own pace. For each movement there is an alternative that the participant can adopt and adapt, for those who desire a more demanding workout. Learners should be attending or have recently attended other exercise classes in order to gain a minimum level of fitness.
You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.
