Course outline

What is the course about?

This course will focus on developing combinations in salsa, and lambada. You will begin to appreciate the style of movement, rhythm and partnership skills adding your own style.

What topics will we cover?

You will work with rhythm and the feeling of the music, develop basic movements into creative combinations. You will work individually, in pairs (leading and following) and as a whole group.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Develop your partnership skills of leading and following further
- Differentiate between musical rhythms (salsa and lambada)
- Perform the steps individually, in pairs and with the whole group
- Improve social skills and interaction
- Improve fitness levels, coordination
- Gain an appreciation of Latin music.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Mixed levels. Beginners who have had some partner work experience are welcome.
You should be able to:

Read simple sentences without help
Follow instructions
Speak clearly to be heard and understood
Make verbal contributions
Respect turn taking and respond to others point of view
Understand and use numbers up to 10

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise in please take a moment to consider the list below. How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- Practical demonstration
- Pair work and whole group activities.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing and dance trainers or salsa shoes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be observed by the tutor, and given constructive feedback where and when appropriate. You will also be able to give and receive feedback from your peer group.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
