What is the course about?

This course is about learning how to instruct and deliver safe and effective Circuit Training sessions for low level, mixed level and advanced fitness level groups. The course runs on Wednesdays from 18 April to 20 June 2012 from 17:45 - 21:15. Practical assessments are on 27 and 28 July 2012.

What topics will we cover?

- How to plan, teach and evaluate a safe and effective circuit training session
- Appropriate health and safety considerations
- Different circuit training approaches, techniques and equipment
- Inclusion of cardiovascular exercises, resistance training exercises or both
- How to set up a class.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Know how to plan, teach and evaluate a safe and effective circuit training session
- Consider appropriate health and safety considerations and what to do about them
- Deliver varied circuit training classes by using different approaches, techniques and equipment
- Include cardiovascular exercises, resistance training exercises or both in class structure
- Set up a circuit training class.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

CYQ level 2. Candidates must be in possession of a CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification (exercise to music or gym), or other qualification recognised by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). (see www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching will be through lecture, discussion, small group and pair work. PowerPoint will be used and practical sessions incorporated. You will be expected to do homework and preparation for practical teaching elements.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Additional costs may be incurred if you wish to purchase books.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

This course requires the completion of an application form.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. There will be a formal assessment at the end of the course. Exam dates: 2, 9 July 2011.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
