Award: City and Guilds 7303 certificate - Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector: Complementary Therapies, Health and Personal Growth.
- The course covers the basic principles and techniques of teaching, and is aimed at those with little or no teaching experience. (You do not need to be teaching to apply for the course.)
This course is taught at City & Guilds Level 3.
In order to get the most from this course you will need to be able to:
• Express yourself clearly, fluently and accurately, both verbally and in written English
• Research, read, comprehend and analyse text
• Write concisely, using different styles, format and structure for different purposes, applying accuracy in grammar and spelling
Before enrolling on the course you will be asked to carry out an initial assessment to demonstrate you are ready to start studying at this level in English. At interview you will be asked to provide evidence of your subject based qualifications as well as evidence of level 2 (eg. GCSE) Maths and English.
Additional information:
- You should be aware that a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to complete the course. You are also expected to participate to the best of your ability and to adhere to the colleges Equal Opportunities Policy while undertaking the course. The policies of the college will be discussed during the first session.
- Application for this course is in two phases:
1. Written application form
2. Group advisory interview
Only applicants who successfully complete these two phases will be offered a place on the course. Please contact the Health and Movement Studies office of Advice & Guidance for an application form.
- By using large and small group work, tasks, pair work, wordstorm, role play
- By visiting/observing other tutors
- By assessing others and your own teaching practice
- By simulated teaching on the course.
Students are asked to prepare a folder including a teaching diary, lesson and course plans and examples of materials. Students will receive a final profile of their strengths as a tutor.
We recommend one book (available in the library / approx £8 to buy).
This course requires the completion of an application form.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
