What is the course about?

The Programme
Healthy steps moving you to better health with the Lebed Method®©
“The Lebed Method” was originally created and continues to be developed by Sherry Lebed Davis (Seattle, Washington) as a 6 or 8-week therapeutic exercise programme for women who have had breast surgery, node dissection, radiation or chemotherapy.
-Classical physiotherapy movements are removed from the sterile clinical setting and set to music using ballet and jazz style movements.
-It is a medically based programme with two published studies and with more in progress.

The Lebed Method is also helpful for:
-Upper & lower Lymphoedema to reduce swelling & increase quality of life
-Those suffering from any chronic illness such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson Disease, M.E. etc
-The elderly
- pregnancy
-Anyone having difficulty with mobility, posture and energy levels. The exercises can be done sitting in a chair or from a bed
-Anyone requiring a fun innovative exercise class
-Children with Cancer, Lymphoedema and chronic illness, this is a separate short training module

Why does The Lebed Method work?
-Traditional physiotherapy movements are translated into dance & exercise language, providing a much more motivating environment
-Music stimulates the participants to move more freely than they otherwise would
-Takes participants minds off pain and limitation and focuses on feeling the movement through the music
-Allows participants to see others achieving.

What topics will we cover?

This four day certification workshop provides you with a comprehensive presentation of the Lebed Method, Focus on Healing programme, as well as the physical and emotional value it brings to your clients. This course will help you learn and understand TLM and allow you to bring it back to your hospital, clinics, community and fitness centres.

All Lebed Method exercises will be taught and discussed at length. In addition to the lectures and instruction, you will be expected to participate in a working lab, movement and music.

All topics of the workshop manual will be explained and developed.

The Book, “Thriving after Breast Cancer” Essential Healing Exercises for Body and Mind, by Sherry Lebed Davis as well as the Video Focus on Healing and our DVD, The Lebed Method is sent to you in your final packet prior to the start of the course. It is to be read, viewed and studied before arrival of your training. The more you study before the training the more you will be prepared. There will be additional project work each evening during the course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- complete the written examination paper
- teach the opening lymphatic movements
- practice all the movements described in the manual
- create your own class using a range of movements
- choose suitable music for teaching a healthy steps class.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Instructor certification course with practical training and an open book examination externally marked. On successful completion of the examination and practical training to the required standard you will receive the qualification CLM – Certified Lebed Method Instructor
On completion of the course you will be fully equipped to set up and teach your own Healthy Steps classes in any number of different settings and client base. You will become a registered teacher of the Lebed Method and listed on the Lebed Method website as a qualified instructor. You will be required to maintain your membership annually and complete 10 educational credits, CPD – 10 hours annually.
You are required to hold a CPR training certificate, or have one within 90 days of the training.
You will be eligible to attend any CLM training in the USA, UK or other venues free of charge by arrangement with the CLMT.

Upon successful course completion, you will be provided with a working manual; topics include:
-A break down of the physical exercises
-Learn about Lymphoedema and exercises specially for the lymphatic system
-Articles
-Music suggestions
-Promotional material
-Published papers
-The psycho-social needs of your clients
-Information as it relates to exercise and Lymphoedema
-Marketing tips on how to create awareness of TLM in your community.
-Information on breast awareness and related issues for breast cancer sufferers
-How to teach your clients to find the child again in themselves through this therapeutic exercise programme.
-You will also have access to the teacher only site which provides regular updates of exercise routines, music, research, and on-line support from Dr Marc Lebed on any health related questions and Sherry Lebed for exercise queries and support.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by lecture, DVD, group work, individual activities and home study.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

This course fee includes the book Thriving after Breast Cancer, by Sherry Lebed Davis as well as the DVD Focus on Healing, together with a full and comprehensive training manual; your certification and first year licensing fee; a marketing DVD which includes press and media excerpts; support materials and one Theraband.
You will require pens, a notebook, highlighters, pens, access to a CD player and a wide choice of music for home study.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

This course requires the completion of an application form.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
