THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR PILATES STUDENTS WITH AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF PILATES EXPERIENCE WITH A QUALIFIED TEACHER.
This course is about the principles and fundamentals of mat-based Pilates and the instructing of mat-based Pilates. The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Pilates instructor at CYQ level 3. You will learn how to:
- prepare, plan teach and evaluate a 6 week Pilates based matwork session for a group of adults in a controlled and safe environment
- communicate effectively with participants in this setting
- interview and assess a participant, agree 'smart' goals and devise a 12 week progressive programme for them, according to their needs
- identify the fundamentals of Pilates and mobilisation including 34 matwork moves, the benefits of core endurance and the characteristics of the 6 main posture types.
Course runs on Thursdays from 26 Jan - 29 Mar 2012 and 26 Apr - 31 May 2012 10;00 - 17:15
Assessments are on 27, 28 and 29 June 2012.

Award: CYQ Level 3 certificate.
Prior completion of OCR/CYQ level 2 and level 3 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge necessary. Level 3 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge could also be completed up to Jan-March 2010.
You should be able to demonstrate a commitment to exercise and a good level of fitness.
You need to be used to studying and have sufficient written skills to undertake the coursework e.g. you will need to be able to:
- spell common words correctly
- select, read and summarise texts
- present information clearly in writing and when speaking
- extract information from lists, tables, diagrams and simple charts
- use IT skills including working with Word documents, simple tables and emails.
Application for this course is in two phases:
1) Written application
2) Group advisory interview/workout

- Students will be expected to carry out practical and theory work outside course hours and attend regular exercise classes. This is a highly intensive course and we recommend that you set aside time for self study.
Please wear exercise clothing and bring writing materials. You will need to purchase an exercise manual and 2 folders to hold your coursework/handouts.
This course requires the completion of an application form. All applicants will be required to attend a group interview.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. - Through CYQ portfolio
