Course outline

What is the course about?

A simple technique to make your own hand-made soaps, using natural and organic pre-prepared soap blocks, plant material and essential oils.

What topics will we cover?

A brief history of soap
The basic technique of soap making using pre-prepared organic soap blocks
The plant properties of the essential oils used such as lavender, teatree, lemon etc
Creative packaging of soaps.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Make the following 3 soaps:
Antiseptic soap
Moisturizing soap
Gentle cleansing soap for body and face.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Introductory level
You are required to follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is mainly a practical course where you will work in small groups actively making the soaps. No outside class work is required other than reading through the given handouts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No - all materials are provided by the college.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
