A Japanese healing art called Shiatsu. It is like massage but is carried out on a mat on the floor, fully clothed. Shiatsu is performed to contact the Ki (vital energy) that circulates in the meridians (energy lines on the body) using thumb and palm pressure.
The content of the course will be a series of exercises to develop Ki sensitivity. Demonstrations of a variety of Shiatsu techniques, focusing on the back of the body. These techniques can be used on family and friends to promote relaxation and well being.
- Identify the Contra-indications to giving and receiving Shiatsu
- Practise Shiatsu techniques on friends and family
- Use a series of acupressure points on self and others
- Perform a series of exercises to calm or stimulate the energy.
This course is suitable for complete beginners. It is not suitable for those with knee problems as it is practised on a mat on the floor. You are required to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts.
