What is the course about?

The ITEC Level 3 Award - Healthy Eating and Well Being for the Complementary Therapies Client will enable you to provide healthy eating advice for your clients who you already treat for the purpose of improving their health and lifestyle.

What topics will we cover?

1. The role of and sources of nutrients required for a balanced diet and good health
2. How healthy eating can complement the therapeutic quality of your massage treatment
3. Structure and function of the digestive system
4. The roles of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and fibre in the diet
5. The roles of watre, vitamins and minerals in the diet
6. The effect of cooking, refining and environmental pollutants on nutrients
7. Nutritional balance/imbalance and common health conditions
8. BMR and metabolism
9. Eating habits in relation to culture, religion and geographical location
10. How lifestyle changes impact on general health and well being.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

: Provide healthy eating advice for your clients who you already treat for the purpose of improving health and lifestyle
: Gain the ITEC Level 3 Award - Healthy Eating and Well Being for the complementary Therapies Client.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Practitioner Level 3. You must hold the following qualification
1) ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage or
2) ITEC Level Diploma in Complementary Therapies

You should be able to:
Select and use different texts to obtain information
Read and summarise information from different sources
Actively respond to points within a text
Use language suitable for purpose and audience
Write in complete sentences and write more than one paragraph
Clarify and confirm understanding
Follow discussions and make relevant contributions
Ask and respond to straightforward questions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lecture, word storm, pair and group work activities. You will given homework by the tutor and you will also need to complete one assignment, using one of the following formats: Written word, Chart, Spider diagram, Graph, Other pictorial presentation.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The recommended ITEC course book list includes:
1) The Food Bible by Judith Wills
2) The Optimum Nutrition Bible by Patrick Holford
3) Nutrition for Dummies by Carol Ann Rinzler
4) Nutrition A Practical Approach by Suzanne le Quesne
Handouts will also be provided, and your tutor will also recommend other sources of reference.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

This course requires the completion of an application form. You will need to send in a copy of your ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma with your application form.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. It is important that you complete your home work and assignment on the time set by your tutor, so that you will be able to gain comprehensive feedback.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
