The course runs every other Thursday 18:00 - 21:30 beginning on 15 Sep 2011. - To provide students with the necessary information from the ITEC syllabus for units 342: Provide Reflexology and 343: Reflective Practice for Reflexology
- To provide a structured progressive learning environment whereby students will be able to achieve the course objectives.
- To teach the theoretical and practical aspects of reflexology (as per course content/syllabus).
- To provide a safe environment whereby you may, in the form of role play, prepare yourself to be able to assess prospective clients prior to giving reflexology treatments.
- To teach students how to construct a consultation sheet for the taking of case histories, and to prepare them for the ITEC reflexology practical exam, so that once successful they will be able to practise reflexology professionally.

1. You should be aware that a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to complete the course. You are also expected to participate to the best of your ability and to adhere to the colleges Equal Opportunities Policy while undertaking the course. The policies of the college will be discussed during the first session.
2. Students will be required to undertake 60 treatments over the duration of the course and record evidence as per the ITEC documentation.
3. Due to the nature of this course, you will not be entitled to transfer to a different course after the course has started.

The course is wide-ranging including areas on the ITEC syllabus: history, theory, philosophy and techniques used in reflexology, zones, reading and mapping of the feet, related anatomy, contraindications, integral biology (how the body is affected by environmental and social factors)
This will enable you to:
a) Prepare and evaluate characteristics of an appropriate treatment environment and prepare your self, client and work area in accordance with current legislation and working practice requirements
b) Consult with clients. Recognise and evaluate contraindications and contra actions when applying Reflexology
c) Perform and be able to adapt treatments when necessary using a variety of mediums - powedr, foot cream, gel etc
d) Explain the principles of reflexology treatments, theory and techniques, reflex points, zones, transfer liens and cross reflexes on both feet and hands
e) Describe the history, philosophy and role of Reflexology and evaluate the physiological and psychological effects
f) Provide suitable home care advice
g) Provide critical evaluation of techniques and treatments
h) Reflect upon your work and profession as a therapist
Complete case studies - (100 treatments in total) 10 clients x 4 treatments each (outside class time) + minimum of 60 treatments undertaken outside and in class time
Practical: External reading of the feet. Techniques and sequence. Hygiene and sterilisation. Preparation of the work place. Interpretations of reflexes. Consultations. Record keeping. Hand reflexology. Client care and comfort. Contraindications. Presentation and professional image of practitioner. Case studies (as above).
- Perform a full reflexology treatment using a variety of thumbing and fingering techniques
- Competently carry out a consultation with intended clients prior to treatment
- Over the length of the course, produce no less than 60 treatments to be handed in to ITEC as part of the formal assessment
- Recognise when reflexology is contraindicated either wholly or partially
- Draw upon knowledge gained from anatomy and physiology when applying the reflexology treatments
- Reach the required standard necessary to sit the ITEC examinations (theory and practical)
- Produce case histories and recored treatments ( please see ITEC website for number of case studies)
- Work within a standard code of professional ethics which will enable you to insure yourself against public liability
- On successful completion of the course students will gain the International Therapy Examination Council Diploma in Reflexology. You wil can then practise reflexology professionally.
ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology
You would have completed all units from the syllabus of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in massage (or equivalent) to have covered Units 340, 341, 346, 347, 348 and 350. You will also need to nned to complete unit 349: Business Practice for Complementary Therapies.

Students will need to have completed the ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma (or equivalent) or ITEC Anatomy and Physiology and Business Skills.

Students with any of the listed medical conditions should attach written letters of approval from their GP with their application form. Without these letters, any consideration for acceptance onto a course can be denied. It will also be at the discretion of the tutor team and head of programme whether candidates are suitable for placement.
This is a theoretical and practical course. The teaching methods will be: talk by tutor, pair work and group work. The students will be encouraged to contribute to learning sessions. Regular home study will be required, a minimum of three hours per week.
Exam dates: Practical exams 1st July 2012.

White towels, couch cover and a professional uniform is required for the practical exam. Wear comfortable, clean clothes to class.
If you have not already completed this, you will need to complete Unit 349: Business Practice for Complementary Therapies. This is taught as a separate course.
This course requires the completion of an application form.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. After the first term students will be expected to work independently with case studies which will be assessed. You will be expected to produce no less than 60 treatments to include Reflective Practice which will be assessed by the tutor and externally verified by ITEC at the end of the course.
The practical examination will be assessed externally by an ITEC examiner at the end of the course.
