What is the course about?

This is an essential unit for students undertaking the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage and covers the syllabus of Unit 349 of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage. You will learn aspects of starting up and running a successful business in complementary therapies including legal requirements, business plans, marketing and budgeting.

What topics will we cover?

The legal requirements of running a business, marketing and public relations, employment opportunities within complementary therapies industries, marketing and effective communication strategies, identifying business opportunities and creating a business plan.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Recognise the key business criteria required for complementary therapy
- Research a business concept
- Plan, prepare and maintain a business plan.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a Level 3 course accredited with ITEC. You need to be currently studying the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage.

Reading:
Be able to use different texts to obtain and summarise information
Detect opinion, meaning and bias in writing and respond to points made within a text

Writing:
Use different styles, format and structure, formal and informal for different purposes or audiences
Write complex sentences with few errors

Speaking/listening:
Be able to listen to information and respond appropriately
Present information clearly and persuasively
Adapt verbal contributions to suit the audience and situation
Make significant contributions in discussions

Numeracy/Maths:
Recognise, name, draw or use 2D and /or 3D objects (optional choice when working on projects)
Extract, interpret and/or create information from lists, tables, diagrams, graphs and charts
Understand percentages and fractions, using halves and quarters
Use and calculate ratio, scale and proportion
Read time in common date formats
Calculate costs and change from transactions in pence and whole pounds
Read, estimate, measure and compare length, weight, height and capacity as required

Access to the internet when undertaking project work.

Please bring pen and paper and a folder for course work. Please identify to your tutor which ITEC Level 3 massage diploma course you are currently undertaking.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

This course requires the completion of an application form.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

ITEC qualifications in Indian Head massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Stone therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Sports and Onsite Massage. Other CPD courses for complementary therapists.
