In this course you will learn about the practical and theoretical aspects of the Art of Traditional Thai Massage at Foundation level. You would have completed an ITEC qualification in Anatomy & Physiology or the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage or equivalent. It would be useful if you have also undertaken an introductory course in Thai Massage.

You will not be entitled to transfer to a different course after the course has started. Please also be aware that a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to complete the course. You will also be expected to participate to the best of your ability and to adhere to the colleges Equal Opportunities Policy while undertaking the course.
A copy of the full syllabus will be issued at the beginning of the course. The course will incorporate aspects of the Wat Po discipline, though other northern Thailand style disciplines will be introduced where appropriate. The course will cover the History and Roots of Thai Massage, Introduction to the 10 Sen lines, related anatomy and physiology and its link to Thai Yoga Massage. You will cover a full Thai Massage Practical session to cover acupressure and stretching techniques of the whole body including back, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet, abdomen, chest, head and face.
You will also learn how to complete and document 15 case studies ( 5 people to be treated 3 times each).
- Perform a full Traditional Thai Massage treatment including Yoga type stretching
- Recognise the action of the breath while treating
- Perform acupressure techniques including use of palms, thumbs, forearms, elbows, feet, and knees on a variety of different clients
- Utilise some Thai massage techniques into your existing massage routines
- Perform yoga type stretches on a variety of different clients
- Discuss the history and roots of Thai Massage
- Discuss the Benefits, effects and contraindications of Thai Massage
- Name and locate the 10 Sen
- Recap and review underpinning knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology ( particularly muscles) when treating clients
- Complete 10 case studies ( 5 people twice each).
Foundation (Stage 1)
You would have completed the ITEC Anatomy and Physiology Diploma or the ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma or equivalent.

Application for this course will require you to fill in an application form. Only applicants who have completed the ITEC Anatomy and Physiology Diploma or the Holistic Massage Diploma or equivalent, will be considered for the course.

Students with any of the listed medical conditions should attach written letters of approval from their GP with their application form. Without these letters, any consideration for acceptance onto a course can be denied. It will also be at the discretion of the tutor team and head of programme whether candidates are suitable for placement.
Lecture, small group work, word storming, question and answer, discussion. There will be short tests in class as well as assignments to follow up. You will need to take responsibility for photocopying some documents for case studies and find people to practice the massage on in between class sessions and to complete your case studies. 15 case studies including consultation ( 5 people x 3 treatments each).
There will be suggested reading material to purchase, though handouts will be provided. You will need to bring writing materials and a folder for your handouts, as well as colouring pencils to aid in the learning of the Sen lines. For practical work, please wear loose comfortable clothing, and bring sundries for your working space such as wet wipes, tissues, small towel etc (this will be discussed in the first session).
This course requires the completion of an application form.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will need to a minimum of 80% attendance to gain the foundation certificate. If you know of any issues ( health or otherwise) that may hinder your learning process or attendance of the course to at least 80% please consider these before applying for the course.
