Course outline

What is the course about?

This one day course will introduce you to the Water Element. In Chinese theory the organs related to the Water Element are the Kidneys (yin energy), and the Bladder (yang energy). The season for this element is winter, a time for resting and replenishing our bodies. The Kidneys store our original Essence or prenatal energy, called Jing. The Bladder energy pathway, which runs along either side of the spine, relates to the central nervous system. With the practice of Chi Kung we can nourish and strengthen the body. Water supports both movement and stillness.

What topics will we cover?

The Water Element is very important in chi kung so this day will introduce you gently to some basic theory. We will practise some warm up exercises, loosening up the joints. You will learn some movements to help move the chi as well as static postures, finishing with a meditation. The focus will be on soft, smooth, flowing relaxing movements.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- practise the warm up exercises demonstrated
- hold the static postures
- reproduce and practise the water element forms as demonstrated
- maintain a sitting meditative posture.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for all.

You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.

when necessary during the class to enhance and develop your practice. Some handouts will also be provided.
