Course outline

What is the course about?

This course is for qualified instructors who want to learn how to create interesting, challenging and fun choreography and to improve their teaching skills.

What topics will we cover?

- Enhanced cueing skills
- Position changes and right footing
- Pre-Phrasing
- Cross Phrasing
- Some principles of creative choreography.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Learn how to build user-friendly but exciting choreography.
- Learn how to switch from participant to mirror image and back again, effortlessly.
- Learn how to cue verbally and visually in advance.
- Learn the creation of a 64 count block of layered choreography.
- Demonstrate improved teaching skills.
An internal Certificate will be issued on satisfactory completion of the course.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Participants should have at least 3 months teaching experience.

This is a second level course. You will need to have completed a Certificate in Teaching Exercise and Fitness (OCR level 2 in Exercise to Music) or hold another appropriate movement / sports related qualification, in order to gain entry to this course.

If you are unsure if your qualification is suitable you must check this with the tutor in advance of the course.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise in please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in an exercise or movement class.

- Do you often feel faint or have spells of dizziness?
- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Is there anything else we should know about your health?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back or knee problems?

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

In a workshop style including practical participation, discussion, small group and partner work.

You will be expected to prepare a lesson plan and teach a segment of a class to the group.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

None. Please wear exercise clothing and trainers. Bring a bottle of water.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be teaching your peers a component of a practical session.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
