THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR YOGA STUDENTS WITH AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF YOGA EXPERIENCE WITH A QUALIFIED TEACHER.
This intense Yoga teacher training course will prepare you to plan, teach and evaluate safe and effective Yoga courses. You will study theory of Yoga and Yoga philosophy. Learn how to set up a class and fulfil the necessary paperwork involved in the planning and evaluations of yoga courses. Learn to teach Yoga postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditations.
This Yoga teacher training course is accredited by the CYQ (YMCA) and it will be held on weekends from January 2012 to July 2012 including a 6 day intensive in July. Course dates are: 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 29 JAN; 12,19,26 FEB; 10,11,18,24,25 MAR; 28 APR; 5,12,26,27 MAY; 10,16,17,24 JUN; 7,9,10,11,12,13,14,21 JUL. Please note that 80% attendance is required. EXAMS 27, 28 JUL 2012.
The Diploma in Teaching Yoga: CYQ level 3 consists of 7 units:
-Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology for exercise and health
-Unit 2 Health, Safety & Welfare in a Fitness Environment
-Unit 3 Principles of Exercise, Fitness & Health (NOT TAUGHT AS PART OF THIS COURSE, YOU MUST COMPLETE CYQ Level 2 TEACHING EXERCISE & FITNESS OR EQUIVELENT)
-Unit 4 Know how to support clients who take part in exercise & physical activity
-Unit 5 The Philosophy and Fundamentals of Yoga
-Unit 6 Programming a Yoga Session
-Unit 7 Delivering a Yoga Session.
- Base your teaching of yoga on the principles of anatomy, physiology, training and components of fitness
- Discuss basic yoga philosophy referring to the yoga scriptures
- Plan a yoga class relating precautions, prohibitions, modifications and benefits of asanas to different students' health
- Plan teach and evaluate safe and effective yoga courses including asanas, relaxation, pranayama, meditation, mudra and bandha
- Use yoga equipment safely in your teaching
- Create the quality paperwork needed when teaching adults: lesson plan, course outline (with aims and objectives, teaching methods, resources, assessment and evaluation methods), health questionnaire and individual student record keeping.
This course is suitable for Yoga students with at least 2 years of Yoga experience with a qualified teacher. You will need to apply using an application form available online or from the Health and Movement Department.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise in please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in an exercise or movement class.

- Do you often feel faint or have spells of dizziness?
- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Is there anything else we should know about your health?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back or knee problems?
The course is lead by a group of tutors who will use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstration and practice, questions and answers and small group work. You will be given written and practical homework. While the teachers have different Yoga backgrounds, the part of the asana focus will be on correct alignment.
You will need to buy some Yoga books (about £80), acquire a trainee teacher insurance (£73), pay for 3 observed teaching assessments (3 x £50) and also attend a First Aid course to get your Yoga teacher qualifications.
This course requires the completion of an application form.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be assessed by your:
- professional practice diary
- worksheets
- lesson plans
- scheme of work
- observed teaching assessment
- reflective logbook
- theory paper in anatomy and physiology
The tutor will also give you feedback on your progress during tutorials.
Practical exam dates: 27 & 28 July 2011.
