A life-long procrastinator, I found this one-day session a great motivator. The tutor was extremely positive, energetic and helpful. I learnt a lot - not just from [the tutor] and my own efforts, but also by being with a group and listening to what they had written and their feedback. Truly inspirational.

It was my first time at a City Lit Course and I will definately do another course. I found it informal and welcoming, possibly too many students as there wasn't time to give everyone a fair crack and maybe the larger group put some people off but I enjoyed it...and it made me think. Would have liked to have done another short story exercise though. I liked the poetry section but would have liked to have liked one more section on short story form as well. Still, it's made me interested in writing.

We got off to a welcoming and non-threatening start with a bit of course admin. With the ice broken we each had a chance to say why we were there. The tutor stated the course objective of three pieces of writing from each of us and most of us achieved this. We read our work aloud, our peers commented, the tutor moderated encouragingly. I was so pleased with the comfortable atmosphere engendered by the tutor and pleasantly surprised at how much she elicited from us. For me this was an effective taster and I intend to go on to a further course.

I was very much looking forward to the course. I had booked it ages ago. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed as the course didn't meet my expectations at all: there was no feedback from the tutor after we wrote our first piece. Moreover, poetry writing was included in the programme of the day (however this didn't figure on the Citylit website). This was not what I was hoping to learn. A pity!

This course felt like a real liberation. Few of us believed we'd come away with three pieces of work we'd be proud of by the end of the day but I feel like we all did.

A very well structured course which certainly delivers exactly what it says on the tin. I left with 3 peices of writing which did not cause me too much embaressment - even, dare I say some pleasure... The tutor was a professional writer who gave of herself and her craft in a very open hearted and inclusive way.

A really enjoyable day - I was pleased to come away with both a poem and a short story written on the course. Everyone was very engaged, and it was good to share our work.

Very good course based on problem solving and finding your potentials. The feedback is very helpful and presented in a kind way by the tutor, which builds my self-confidence and alleviates my anxiety.

As this was my first City Lit course and my first course in creating writing I didn't know what to expect so was quite nervous when coming into the college but felt completely at ease with the staff telling me where I should go. When I got to the course room I found the professionalism of the tutor extremely good and the content of the course very interesting indeed. The course opened up my mind to what exactly creating writing was and what to expect if I did a more extensive course (as this was just a taster). We did about 3 exercises which stretched my mind and gave me ideas and the best thing was that one of the exercises enabled me to compose a poem (something I hadn't done in years) which was very personal to me. We all read out our work to the class for their constructive critism (I found the class a lovely bunch of people and there were not too many in the class). One of the girls in the class said my poem made her cry (as it was about my daughter). I later read this poem out to my daughter at home and she loved it - and I felt very proud to have been able to have achieved such a piece of work. So all in all I got a lot out of this course and would recommend it to anybody who just wants to expand their mind and explore possibilities of what they can actually achieve (however good or small).
