Course outline

What is the course about?

Helping you improve your writing skills and sustain a commitment to your work.
Developing confidence in giving constructive criticism and using it to revise or edit your work.

What topics will we cover?

A reading schedule will be drawn up in the first class allowing you to read out twice in the term. Short impromptu readings are also possible.
This is a writing workshop and learning takes place chiefly by reading one’s work and listening to the work of others.
Your work will be read in class on a rota basis and discussed by the tutor and the group.
There will also be opportunities for general discussion.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Write more effectively and confidently in your chosen genre
- Respond to, and assess, pieces of writing with sensitivity
- Evaluate, develop, revise and edit your own work.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This workshop is for writers with some experience who may also be wanting to work towards publication. Typically students will have been to writing courses previously. Students should have work in progress.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

A reading schedule will be drawn up in the first class allowing you to read out twice in the term. Short impromptu readings are also possible.
There will be tutor and group discussion of students’ writing; general discussion of relevant topics and issues and practical creative assignments.

Outside class : The work is to extend your own body of writing in the light of feedback.

No.

What feedback will I get?
