The workshop approach is a good stimulus to writing and the weekly deadline a motivational landmark if you want the class to work that way for you. [The tutor's] analysis useful and her flexibility and lack of dogmatism refreshing.

Although I am not English, I felt very comfortable and was easy to follow the class. The teacher gave me valuables tips and helped me to continue developing my work. All the classmates were kind and worried to help each other.

The course tutor always finds something encouraging to say about students' writings, then gives suggestions for improvements. Topics were also covered, e.g. plotting, publishing, and useful writing exercises given. Allocation of students' time slots is worked out in a very fair manner.

An excellent course for improving confidence in writing and writing technique. Would have preferred more incisive comments from fellow students, but teacher was excellent at constructive criticism. I feel ready to commit further to my writing now.

It is very difficult to get the right balance between teaching and student participation. This was achieved on this course most of the time.

I have really enjoyed this course. It has provided an excellent forum in which to exchange thoughts with and hear extracts written by some extremely talented writers, under the wise and watchful gaze of our tutor. In my view the description which was given of the course and what to expect was accurate, and learning is very much derived from critiquing one another's work based on short weekly assignments. We had the opportunity to choose the areas of creative writing which we wanted to focus on and we have covered topics such as short story structures, poetry writing,time management, active dialogue,opening paragraphs and narrative voice,autobiography writing and character portrayal.
The weekly two hour sessions speed by and if anything I would have liked this course to run on for longer to give us a chance to cover each of the topics which we have looked at in more depth, and to also cover some more technical aspects of creative writing. However overall I have found the course very helpful for my own writing, a source of encouragement and above all a great way to meet other aspiring writers with similar concerns to my own.
