Developing your own material and your understanding of how screenwriting works, in a supportive and creative workshop environment.
The course is project-based, i.e. aimed at developing your own work, but you must be prepared to give
generously in helping your fellow participants with their own projects, as they will with yours, under the overall supervision of the tutor. If you are secretive about your work or reluctant to contribute to the work of others (without credit or financial reward) you should NOT apply.
- Write an outline and pitch for your own feature film
- Write key sample scenes for your own feature film
- Assess your own and other material and respond critically and positively.
You should have completed either Screenwriting Stage 1 or another introductory screenwriting course PLUS have a
one-page proposal for an original film project from which to work. If you have already written a first draft script that is fine but note that we will not be discussing your script in its entirety.
Each week you will be set a task relating to your film project. This will usually be either structural (e.g. what happens in your first act) or dialogue-based (e.g. write a crucial three-page scene). You will bring your material in for the next session and, subject to time limits, will present it to the class for discussion and suggestions. During the course you will also have a one-to-one session with your tutor.
