The advertised details does say " some formal teaching given."Very little, in fact.Too much of the course is given over to reading and criticising the students' stories.Moreover, no mention is made of "audience" ie the target market for stories and the difference between literary stories and "popular" fiction,magazine stories for example.Probably better and cheaper to buy one of the many good books available on writing the short story.

Met all my expectations - a good course for those who want to experiment with short story writing

Stimulating, suppportive and friendly course which gave me lots of ideas for new stories!

I had a fantastic experience on this course; it was by far the best City Lit course I have taken so far. The course content was well-structured but also responsive to the needs of the participents. Feedback was presented in a constructive and positive way and equal attention was given to all participents. I think that anyone interested in improving their writing and gaining feedback for the first time, should enjoy this course and find it highly rewarding.

This course is inspiring, illuminating and extremely well organised - like the best short stories. If you want to develop and hone your short story writing abilities in a very supportive and generous environment then this is the course for you.

This course has been a very positive experience for me as I have had a lot of encouraging feedback about my writing which has given me the confidence to pursue my aim and submit work to publishers and enter competitions. The course fulfils it's obligations to the course descripion and I would strongly recommend it as you are able to develop your writing skills in a supportive environment with constructive guidance from the tutor.
