Brilliant tutor, Josh Lacey. Knows what he is talking about, but is not prescriptive. Gets participants to talk, exchange ideas and criticism, and be motivated to write. Lots of challenging and entertaining writing exercises. Excellent choice of reading material, excellent handouts.

A stimulating and interesting class - too many of us of course but that seems to be the case for all these courses.

Very interesting assignments. Did not know what to expect...so it was a great surprise and positive course for me.

I really enjoyed this class, taught by a very patient, and inspirational teacher. The class provided some excellent starting points for venturing in to creative writing, and introduced workshops in a supportive and helpful environment. This was helped by the lovely people on the course at the same time as me. A great experience, that I would thoroughly recommend!

A fabulous 10 weeks. A great tutor and students who were supportive, imaginative and thoroughly enthusiastic. Couldnt ask for more.

I can't fault this course at all - I thought it was absolutely fantastic! I learnt a huge amount from it and enjoyed listening to and working with others on the course.

The tutor was very helpful and injected enthusiasm and insight into the class.

The only downside was that it wasn't longer!

A rewarding experience to share work and have other people share theirs. Encourages involvement and openness. A lovely introduction to writing.

The course enabled me to develop the confidence and inspiration to start writing. The tutor was excellent and gave a generous amount of feedback given the size of the group. I particularly appreciated doing exercises within the class and taking home some material to start me off on my homework rather than being faced with a blank page. My only criticism would be that I wish City Lit would/could limit the numbers on Creative Writing classes. Once the class is over 12, the content becomes forcibly diluted. The level of participants was very high and so promoted a sense of wanting to produce quality work oneself. The quality of tutor feedback and encouragement was invaluable.

A very enjoyable number of weeks and the teacher was very helpful and patient. The lessons were inspiring and opened new ways to create stories and new styles of poetry. I would recommend this. Hope you enjoy it.

The course is a great introduction to creative writing. Not only prose but poetry as well which was very interesting as I'd never read much poetry before. The course is a great way of getting your creative writing started. You get homework each week, which is sometimes challenging but worth it. The course was also a great way to meet new people and listen to their work, which is very fulfilling. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who would like to start creative writing and needs help to do so.

This is a super course if you want to learn about the elements that go into great writing. You get to read material each week, selected by your tutor, understand some of the techniques and tricks of the trade, write your own pieces - poetry or prose - and to share your work with like-minded class mates, who are supportive and encouraging. A reall great experience if you are new to writing.

The course has really helped me to start writing and provides an excellent introduction and overview of various techniques and styles. But there are a few too many people on the course which means a lot of lesson time is taken up with reading what everyone has written and not everyone has a chance to read their work every week.
