I enjoyed this greatly
A friendly and encouraging bunch of writers, shepherded by a thoughtful if eccentric, easy going leader. It all works very well if what you want is an informal, challenging yet supportive “club” environment. I will be going back if they will have me.

This course brings together new and more experienced writers, and through discussion of their work in class, together with more structured input from the tudor, nurtures their wrtiting ambitions in a cordial yet challenging environment. In this way it provides a refreshingly unprescriptive and probably unique forum for the development of a wide variety of literary skills.

I have been attending the Writers' Club for several years now and it would not be an exaggeration to say that without the meetings on Thursday nights I might well have given up writing fiction by now. Feedback from the tutor and from other writers has enabled me to improve my skills enormously and has boosted my confidence as an aspiring novelist. At least two of the writers I have worked with over the period are now published novelists and the standard of work, and of critical assessment is extremely high. I also really like the informal, unstructured nature of the course.

A model for the aspiring writers' activity is expanded week by week through playful analysis of their own work. How this is possible with such widely differing aspirations amongst the students is a measure of the quality of the teaching. A course to be recommended without reservation.

Having continually and without interruption attended various courses at City Lit from, I think, from 1967, I may well have been at the institute longer than anyone else including tutors. That speaks for itself, you'd agree. I know of no other institute of its kind that offers better conditions to expand one's mind and keep up with the world.

I was one of the first to do a an Arts Foundation Course at City Lit then got admission to Goldsmiths college (and still continuted attending City Lit during my 3 years there. I have also done various writing courses - poetry, short story, plays as well as courses in psychology, yoga, etc.

I don't forsee giving up studies - unless you force me to do so.

Keep up the good work.
