Course outline

What is the course about?

The course is about writing comedy for television or film. It follows on from Writing Comedy Scripts and is aimed at those who want to practice the skills learned in that course on their own projects. Students who have completed Screenwriting 1 and wish to work on a comedy idea may also apply.

What topics will we cover?

Students will need to come up with their own comic idea - for a sitcom or comedy film. This will be worked through in class with other students contributing suggestions and criticism. It is essential that students are prepared to share their own ideas and contribute to others'.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

finalise work on your own chosen comic concept
spot the flaws in projects brought in front of the class (including your own!)
collaborate constructively in the process of project development.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for those who have completed Writing comedy scripts. Also those who have completed Screenwriting: stage 1 and wish to work on a comedy idea.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The majority of each class will be given over to the development of students' projects. There may also be some airing and analysis of comedy programmes. Students are expected to work on their own projects between sessions.
