Course outline

What is the course about?

In this fun all day workshop, sample a range of clips from world festival prize winning film directors from this continent. Discover what kind of films they make and find out how films are bought and sold internationally and who decides which films find their way into your local independent cinema?

What topics will we cover?

The work of some exciting new international film innovators from World cinema; how film festivals and markets promote and trade in these films. How distributors reach a UK audience with a foreign language film.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Identify some key film innovators.
- Recognise what kind of films they make.
- Explain how films are bought and sold in the marketplace.
- Analyse a marketing or distribution campaign for a festival winning film to be shown in the UK.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for anyone interested in world cinema, the film industry and film festivals.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Viewing film clips, discussing the work on screen, looking at marketing materials, fun pair and group exercises.

Tutor Biography
Anita Lewton is a writer / Producer of British films and MD of Corazon Films UK. She also advises and trains
international filmmakers worldwide (including Romania, Tunisia, Dubai etc) and now trains online for IMAGINOX Arts academy. She was Chairwoman of the New Producers Alliance from 2007-2010 and is consultant for the International film Guide, Wallflower Press, UK.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Students will require a pen and paper but the tutor will provide all other materials.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
