I found the the content of the course and the teaching style very engaging and stimulating. The teacher has a deep, knowledge of the Islamic world and beyond with the capacity to draw comparisons and parelles with other cultures such as Western and Indian ones. I have found this approach extremely enriching and fascinating. As I attended all the other three courses, I strongly recommend you to register.

This course is part one of a series of four classes on Islam and covered its history. The tutor gave a detailed and fascinating history of Muhammad, his life and his followers, the creation of the Quran and the beginning of Islam. The story was related objectively as historical fact rather than as belief and was clear and informative. There was discussion of all aspects of Islam, both in the past and the present and in particular, an examination of some of the perceptions held by the West. This is an excellent and intelligent introduction to the roots of Islam and will be useful for anyone wishing to understand more about this religion.

For those who know nothing or almost nothing about Islam, this course is a well-balanced introduction. The teacher is very knowledgeable and interactive. Unlike some other talks I have attended, this one does not shy away from engaging with controversial issues with an open and critical approach. I recommend it highly.
