Course outline

What is the course about?

This course introduces basic techniques and approaches for enthusiasts who want to learn about food writing. It explores the opportunities out there for people who love food and want to write about it.

What topics will we cover?

* The opprtunities out there in newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and cyberspace
* Identifying your audience
* Coming up with ideas
* Pitching ideas to editors
* Researching and writing your article
* Going forward.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate a wider understanding of the world of food writing
Identify opportunities in the market
Identify a project to take forward from the course.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an introductory course. You will need a reasonable standard of English to keep up with the course and an enthusiam for writing about food.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor inputs, based on her experience; activities; discussion; exploring examples of food writing.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

If possible bring along a piece of writing by a food writer you admire as well as pen and paper.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
