Course outline

What is the course about?

A one-day course to help you turn your travel experiences into a saleable travel article.

What topics will we cover?

What makes a good travel piece
What to include and leave out
Eye catching openings
How to get published
How to deal with PRs and Tourist Boards.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- identify good/bad pieces of writing
- learn the basic structure of a travel piece
- ability to write and edit
- identify where and how to sell.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have been writing regularly, either creative writing, keeping a journal during travel or writing articles.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Group discussion, information from the tutor, opportunities to practice writing travel copy with feedback from the tutor and class.

The Tutor
Susan Grossman is an editor, author and journalist of 25 years standing who specialises in consumer affairs and travel. Her career history has included being a researcher/writer for Which, Holiday Which and The Good Food Guide. As a broadcaster she has presented Food and Drink ( BBC2) and has contributed to Woman’s Hour and You and Yours.
She has been Travel editor on the Telegraph and editor of What Hotel Magazine, The Best of British and Quintessential Britain.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Feedback from the tutor and students during the class.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
