Life coaching is an increasingly popular way of helping people achieve their goals and lead the life they would like. This course focuses on the ways that philosophers and philosophical ideas and methods can make life coaching more effective.
- introduction to life coaching.
- introduction to practical philosophy.
- specific philosophers and philosophical methods that can be used in philosophical life coaching.
The life goals that will be covered will include:
- clarifying your values
- being happier
- making wiser decisions
- and finding more meaning to life.
- identify some of the goals and methods of life coaching
- identify some philosophical ideas and methods of use in life coaching
- apply some of the ideas learnt today.
The course is introductory and presupposes no prior knowledge. It will appeal to those interested in philosophy and personal development and also life coaches wishing to extend their skills.
Students will examine arguments by a combination of group or pair activity, lively class discussion and short talks. Participation is required in many exercises but is entirely voluntary in the case of whole class discussion.
Photocopied handouts will be given out and further reading recommended.
